Rising Digital Innovations: In recent years, China’s Freight
Forwarding Industry is increasingly moving
towards more digital, platform-based and collaborative innovation system to
increase its efficiency. High
penetration of mobile commerce has led to large disruption in B2B and B2C
segment, with market participants being able capture a lion’s share
of the market – due to high acceptance rate of Chinese Shippers as well as
Carriers. Some of the popular Digital Aggregator Platforms in China are Manbang,
Huolala and Kuaigou.
Improving
Logistic Infrastructure: In recent years, the Chinese Government is investing heavily for
improving the infrastructure for Freight Forwarding and Warehousing Industries
in the country. Initiatives such as Road and Belt Initiative which include
innovations like new routes and modes for global trade are the major factors
promoting the Industry. Moreover, Major retailers are also
upgrading their existing infrastructure & helping expand their operations
with further investments. For Example, DB Schenker, one of the biggest 3PL players in China is investing heavily
in Eastern China to build state-of-the-art logistics centre in the country
while other players such as DHL, Sinotrans and more are following the suit.
COVID
Impact on Logistics Industry: COVID-19 positively impacted the road freight
industry of the country as demand for groceries and
other essential goods increased by 36% during lockdown 2020 (i.e. Jan to Apr) in
cities like Shanghai, Beijing, Suzhou, Wuhan and others. Moreover, owing to the
above reasons, Cold Storage demand also increased in the country.
Increasing
International Trade:
China has witnessed a large increase in its international trade over the year
which is positively impacting its logistics industry. Trade
balance increased from $ 530 Bn in 2016 to $ 535 Bn in 2020 due to increasing
demand from trading partners in the
booming economies of Southeast Asia. Moreover, more than 50% of China's goods
exports from the country went to USA, Japan, Republic of Korea, India, Hong
Kong, Germany and Netherlands.
