Calcium fluoride is an inorganic compound composed of calcium & fluorine. Its formula is CaF2. Calcium fluoride is a primary source of fluorine in fabrication of hydrogen fluoride and calcium sulfate. It is a white colored solid, also known as fluorspar. It is used to manufacture optical components such as windows & lenses, spectroscopy, thermal imaging systems, telescopes, and excimer lasers. It is transparent over a wide range from ultraviolet (UV) frequencies to infrared (IR) frequencies. Its low refractive index decreases the need for anti-reflection coatings.
