Growing Demand for Natural Gas in Asia Pacific Region Market Outlook: Ken Research

Natural gas is naturally coming up hydrocarbon gas mixture comprising primarily of methane, but commonly include sometimes a small percentage of carbon dioxide, different amounts of other higher alkanes, nitrogen, helium or hydrogen sulfide. Natural gas is found in depth of the rock formations or escort with other hydrocarbon reservoirs in coal beds and as methane clathrates. It is formed when layers of decomposing plant and animals matter are exposed to extreme heat and pressure under the force of the earth over millions of years. It is used as a fuel for vehicles and for commercially important organic chemicals and as a chemical feedstock in the formation of plastic. Generally natural gas was created over time by two mechanism such as biogenic and thermogenic. Natural gas is lightly pressurized into liquids known as Natural Gas Liquid (NGLs).

In Asia Pacific region, demand for natural gas pipeline is majorly between the countries which are producing natural gas. They largely construct pipelines for their domestic transportation of natural gas in the country. However, natural gas is largely imported to Asia Pacific countries such as Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and China through LNG terminals which have been the most prominent way to import gas through other gas exporting countries. Since, natural gas is of low density, so it is not easy to store or transport natural gas through vehicles. Moreover, exporting of gas by pipelines for use in power generation, other end uses for natural gas include export as Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) or transformation of natural gas into other liquid products such as Gas to Liquid (GTL) technologies. Natural gas pipelines are unfeasible across oceans, since the gas needs to be cooled down and squeeze, due to the friction in the pipelines the gas heat up. According to the report, “ASIA NATURAL GAS PIPELINE SYSTEM INDUSTRY SITUATION AND PROSPECTS RESEARCH REPORT” there are three types pf pipeline first one is Distribution Line, means a pipeline other that a gathering or transmission line, second is Gathering Line, means a pipeline that transport gas from current production facility to a transmission line or main and the last one is Transmission Line/Main Line which means a distribution line that serves as a common source of supply for more than one service line.

Major company’s which operates in the construction of natural gas pipelines includes Kinder Morgan, GAstite, Enbridge, Omega Flex, Continental Industries, Inter Pipeline, Weber, Wheatland Tube, Natural Gas Pipeline Co. of America, Northern Natural Gas Co. and others. However, the market structure remains moderately concentrated for the construction of natural gas pipelines as it requires huge capital investment, expertise in the sector along with high end technological knowledge and equipment’s which makes it a big challenge for the new entrants in the market.

The demand for natural gas is mainly driven by weather, storage, economic growth, fuel competition, exports, and others. Since the natural gas has been identified as a key substitute for crude oil to generate power makes it a prominent resource in the Asia Pacific region. This drives the demand for increasing use natural gas as it emits less amount of carbon dioxide in the environment which makes it an ideal substitute for crude oil and this significantly drives the increasing use of natural gas for domestic consumption as well.
In future, it is expected that rising demand for natural gas in countries such as India, China will majorly drives the demand for natural gas pipeline as natural gas emits low amount of carbon emission in the environment and these countries are shifting energy production towards renewable energy from there dependency on producing electricity through crude oil. Key players in the constructive pipeline system market are expected to be benefited from the development of strategic accord with center companies and the Asia-Pacific pipeline security market is also expected to grow with many working vendors.
