Understanding The Hydroelectricity Industry In Brazil: Ken Research

Brazil has immense potential for hydropower which is highlighted by the number of operational projects and the even bigger number of projects that are still in construction phase. Many companies are trying to take advantage of this potential by actively participating in these activities. According to the study, ‘Hydropower In Brazil, Market Outlook To 2030, Update 2018 - Capacity, Generation, Investment Trends, Regulations And Company Profiles’, some of the companies that operate in brazil for hydropower generation include RenovaEnergia S.A., Neoenergia S.A., ItaipuBinacional, FURNAS CentraisEletricas S.A, CPFL Energia S.A., CompanhiaHidroEletrica do Sao Francisco, CentraisEletricas do Norte do Brasil S.A., VotorantimEnergia S.A, TractebelEnergia S.A.andCompanhiaEnergetica de Sao Paulo. Brazil has some of the world largest dams. Although, China has the largest dam however; Brazil has the second largest dam built on Parana River, Itaipu. After the completion of Bela Monte hydroelectric power plant in the Amazon Basin would become the words third largest project in the world.

Rising greenhouse gas emissions across the world have been a major cause for climatic changes. Countries across the world are adopting renewable forms of energy generation such that the world can be protected for future generations. One of the most prominent renewable forms of energy generation is hydropower. Significant majority of renewable forms of energy production is being completed via hydropower plant projects. Hydroelectric power plants are the main source of energy generation in some of the countries. One of these countries is Brazil. Not onlyBrazil but hydropower is the main form of energy generation in the entre Latin America followed by bioenergy. Brazil has one of the highest hydropower generation capacities and this form of energy will play a major role in the coming decade.

In Brazil, government authorities have adopted a two-fold method to prevent environmental degradation. First being the usage of renewable forms of energy and actively promoting it especially hydroelectric energy production followed by ensuring efficient utilisation of resources such that there is minimum wastage. Some studies suggest that Brazil has fully exploited its hydroelectric potential in many areas which is why it is necessary for the country to shift its attention to the Amazon region which is still in nascent stage of development.

The average time for completion of a single hydroelectric power plant is nearly a decade and although the government is implementing the concept of hydroelectric plants however, these plants also cause some damage to the environment. Companies are actively trying to come up with technologies that significantly reduce the construction time for the power plants and also simultaneously reduce the negative environmental impact associated with the construction of hydroelectric power plants.

The potential for hydroelectricity is immense in Brazil which is simultaneously being exploited by not just the government but also by many companies. The competition landscape is segmented with only those companies holding a high share in the market which have the capability to make huge capital investments. There are numerous firms which offer their services to these companies and are also expecting a huge growth in the future. The country is showing immense growth in the hydroelectric industry which is expected to be carried to the future.

Global Cholera Market Outlook: Ken Research

Cholera is an acute epidemic infectious disease characterized by watery diarrhea, extreme loss of fluid and electrolytes coupled with severe dehydration. It is caused by the bacterium Vibrio cholera which contaminates water and food. According to the study, ‘Cholera – Pipeline Review, H2 2018’, each year cholera affects double the number of people that typhoid affects. Cholera is easy to treat yet it claims a significant number of lives each year.

Since the disease is caused by the contamination of water and food, it appears that regions around the world that do not have a strong hygienic base constitute the core of the disease. In this respect Africa has garnered attention. The worldwide cases reported to the WHO in 2016 seem to be aligned with these expectations. A total of thirty-eight countries reported cholera cases out of which seventeen were from Africa and twelve from Asia along with four each from Europe and the Americas. Only one country from Oceania reported cholera cases. Further, more than half of the total number of cases were reported from Africa, nearly one-third from Hispaniola and more than one-tenth from Asia. Haiti, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Yemen, Somalia and the United Republic of Tanzania have been recognized as the most severely affected when it comes to cholera.

Many other nations especially from Africa such as Ghana and Tanzania have begun revolutionizing the distribution of clean water in the country. The authorities of these countries have also started spreading awareness and warning the general public about the harmful capacity of cholera. Both these nations have previously been hit by cholera epidemics and have now been focusing on vaccinesto combat cholera. Haiti too is expressing its concern regarding the same.

It is usually severe dehydration that leads to death from cholera so the most important treatment is to give oral hydration solution (ORS). The mixture consists of large volumes of water mixed with a blend of sugar and salts. Packaged mixtures are commercially available in the market but widespread distribution in developing countries is hindered by cost factors, so homemade ORS recipes are often used with household ingredients. Severe cases require IV fluid. Antibiotics are also used but not recommended due to the rising concern for bacterial resistance. There are currently three cholera vaccines recommended by WHO and are Dukoral, Shanchol and Euvichol.

Recent studies done by the WHO reveal lots of interesting facts about ORS and its effects. The WHO carried out an analysis to deal with widespread cholera. They observed that the lethalness of the disease lies in its ability to kill healthy adults within hours. Cholera has to be treated promptly and timely as this can significantly reduce mortality. Its treatment should consist of prompt rehydration of patients with ORS in certain mild to moderate cases. ORS has been found to be extremely effective especially in epidemics. Research reveals that it cannot influence the infectious process but corrects dehydration and thus, saves lives. Numerous experiences with ORS have shown that it can be given by nonmedical personnel. The critical state in cholera is that of dehydration and thus, WHO recommends that ORS therapy should be initiated immediately even before reaching proper medical establishments.

The recent awareness about the lethalness of cholera has been brought out by the findings of the WHO which claim that dehydration is the main killer and not the infection itself. The importance of ORS is being realized and supplementary measures are being promoted in nations that have recently been plagued by epidemics of cholera. The sanitation and hygiene spectra of global regions brings out the fact that until there is proper sanitation, diseases such as cholera will persist in parts of the world that do not fare well in this respect for instance, Africa.

The pet products industry is a huge industry that is seeing immense growth in the recent years. This growth is also expected to be carried onto future years as well. This high growth rate can be attributed to increasing pet ownership across the countries. Pet products industry primarily includes the sale of pet litter, pet dietary supplements, pet healthcare and other pet products. In the recent years, even small and medium sized companies have been able to come up and gain major market share. When compared to well establish enterprises, the small and medium sized companies do not have financial abilities but due to their small size, they are able to adapt to the fast changing environment.

The region wise segregation of pet products industry clearly divides the globe into 7 large areas. This includes the Americas, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Australia, Asia-Pacific, MEA and Latin America. Due to the strong economic growth and large spending capability, America leads the pet products industry in terms of value of sales followed by the Western Europe. However, higher growth rate can be witnessed from developing markets such as the Asia-Pacific region and MEA. The average sales per capita also vary hugely from one area to the other which is led by North America and Australia. There are many strategies which are followed by companies to gain more and more market share.

This includes stimulating pet ownership. Increasing pet ownership will obviously result into more pet product sales which will lead to more growth for these companies. Other strategies include increasing the share of prepared food, increasing unit prices or creating new markets. Consumer education is also one of the techniques that have been recently adopted by companies to improve the sales of their products. According to various studies conducted, consumers today have started to prefer healthier food products for their pets. The companies have started to focus on healthier pet products. Another factor that users look for is the quality of life which the product improves. So if a product is expensive but significantly improves the quality of life of the users pet, he or she is more likely to purchase that product. The product and price are the two most important factors that affect the individual’s decision as to which product has to be bought for their pet.

The future of this industry is extremely bright primarily due to increasing pet ownership worldwide. Pet product companies are coming up with better products that significantly improve the quality of life of the user’s pet. The competition landscape of this industry can be called fragmented with many large companies offering their service globally whereas some of the firms those operate locally. The new entrants need to look out on decreasing the prices of their products while simultaneously increasing the quality as well as the ability of product to enhance a pet’s quality of life.

The First Drug To Treat Smallpox Market Outlook: Ken Research

Smallpox is an extremely contagious infection caused by the Variola virus for which there is no known cure. Symptoms include fever, malaise, abdominal and severe back pain. The last known natural case occurred in Somalia in 1977 and due to worldwide vaccination programs, this disease has been completely eradicated. By 1980 the WHO declared that smallpox had completely been eradicated although government and health agencies still have stashes of smallpox virus for research purposes. Nowadays people no longer receive routine smallpox vaccinations as they can have potentially fatal side effects, so only the people that face a high risk of exposure get the vaccine.

According to the study, Smallpox – Pipeline Review, H2 2018, researchers are still carrying out studies on smallpox and its treatments. Since smallpox virus is deadly and contagious the research projects are carried out under extreme authorization. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention along with the Russian State Centre for Research on Virology and Biotechnology are the only two labs in the world approved and known to have smallpox virus. Recently the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the first drug to treat smallpox.

This comes as there is a growing concern that the small pox virus may be used in bioterror attacks by terrorists or by people with criminal intentions. This is the main reason why the FDA gave priority review to TPOXX, asmall-molecule antiviral treatment made by the US based SIGA Technologies Inc. and approval was based on research treating animals infected with viruses that were closely related to the virus causing smallpox. Out of the animals tested, less thanone-tenth died compared to the one-third fatality rate among humans who got infected and did not consume the drug. Until now, smallpox treatment consisted of managing symptoms and treatment with three antivirals that are not proven to treat the disease but have been the best potential line of defense. In addition, the vaccine would be used to prevent the disease from spreading. TPOXX is the first approved treatment specifically initiated for the treatment of this virus.

Investigators in the Department of Molecular Virology and Microbiology (MVM), at the Baylor College of Medicine in the US, have received funding from several sources to study the immune responses to the smallpox virus and for vaccine development studies. This shows that authorities around the world are still concerned about this disease. MVM scientists have also investigated the vulnerability of the general population to smallpox and found that the discontinuation of the smallpox vaccination program in the early 1970s has reduced immunity to the variola virus in the general population. In another project MVM researchers have applied a new technology to identify the vaccinia virus antigens that are responsible for the anti-smallpox humoral and immunity that grants protection against smallpox infection.

The technology used is called the TAP (Transcriptionally Active PCR) Express TM system and is a tool that allows thousands of antigen genes to be individually amplified so that their biological function or DNA vaccine immunological potency can be quickly analyzed. The goal of this work has been to identify antigens that would be candidates for use in developing new smallpox vaccines. Also, a team led by the virologists of the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada are trying to recreate Variola, the small pox causing virus in order to better understand it. All around the world there is growing concern regarding the potentially destructive uses of the smallpox virus. Research institutions, mainly from the US, are constantly trying to develop new drugs and vaccines to combat smallpox. Certain educational institutions are also assisting in the process besides Canadian contributions.

Shifting The Renewable Energy To Wind Energy In Brazil: Ken Research

According to the study, ‘Wind Power In Brazil, Market Outlook To 2030, Update 2018 - Capacity, Generation, Investment Trends, Regulations And Company Profiles, some of the companies which are operating in the wind energy sector in Brazil include Renova Energia S.A., Multiner S.A., Energisa SA, Elawan Energy SL and Contour Global L.P. All these companies have taken advantage of the favourable government rules and regulations thereby setting up their dominant shares in the market.
Brazil is one the most clean energy producers in the world and that too an industrialized nation. This achievement has mainly been achieved due to the hydropower projects in Brazil which have been an astounding success. However, the government is equally supportive of promoting wind energy as a mode for generation of energy. Brazil can be considered a potential market for wind energy resources due to the high speed winds, some of which are not present in the entire Latin American Region. The Brazilian Government is keenly in favour clean energy resources as well as wind energy. The government through its various schemes such as tax incentives and rate cuts has set a regulatory framework that is beneficial not just for the international but also for the local players. Regular auction of sites for medium and long term contracts ensure that no probable zone that can be used for the purpose of electricity generation is left out.
Brazil is one of the fastest growing wind markets in the world. The key drivers of this industry are multi-fold and include favourable wind resources followed by an easy government tender/auction centre where bids can be easily placed by any part and lastly appropriate financing schemes that are provided by BNDES. Brazil is the most favourable wind energy market in the entire Latin America that is marked by cost effective techniques and upgraded technologies which ensure maximum efficiency of the turbines. Also, the rules and regulations are set in such a manner that the entire market is easy to enter and does not involve any long paperwork that needs to be processed. The sudden thrust that has been provided to this industry has led to setting up of many international as well local companies to try their expertise in the segment of wind energy. Most of the international players also set up a production facility within the country to meet its requirement of machines and equipments. These production facilities act more like an assembly unit which allows the international players to adapt to the changing legislations in an effective manner. Another favourable reason for the growth of this industry is regular auctions that are conducted by the government authorities. These auctions are conducted on a regular basis ensuing continuity in this industry.
The wind energy segment is expected to rise in the future due to favourable conditions especially from the government’s end. The growth has been high even in the past year which is expected to be carried to the future years. The competition in this industry is expected to increase as more and more international as well as local players would take advantage of the incentive that shall be provided by the government authorities.

Pakistan’s Typhoid Fever Outbreak To Supplement Research On Drug Resistant Bacteria Market Outlook: Ken Research

Typhoid is a bacterial infection that can lead to a high fever called Typhoid fever. It can also include instances of diarrhea and vomiting. It is caused by the Salmonella Typhi bacteria which gets deposited in food or water by human carriers and is then spread to others. This contaminated water and food is the most common channel for the spread of the infection.
According to the study, ‘TYPHOID FEVER – PIPELINE REVIEW, H2 2018, if detected early enough then typhoid can be successfully treated with antibiotics or else it can prove to be fatal as reported in one-fourth of the cases. Typhoid fever has been found to be common in low income countries. This fact further gains momentum by the results from various studies conducted on the cases reported in the US which reveal that three-fourth of them start when people travel internationally. Apart from the US, European countries also report encountering typhoid mostly when they visited Asia and South America. Countries such as Pakistan, India and Bangladesh are at the core of this argument as most of these countries suffer from poor sanitation and lack of access to clean drinking water. The risk of developing the infection is also there in visiting Africa.
Antibiotics are used to treat typhoid fever with the most common ones being ciprofloxacin and ceftriaxone. As with a number of other bacterial diseases, there is currently concern about the growing resistance of Salmonella Typhi against antibiotics. This concern is a very valid one as it is not only impacting the choice of drugs available to treat typhoid but also because this is not the first time the bacteria has shown resistance. In recent years, for example, typhoid became resistant air travel from Pakistan. Genomic comparison revealed that the person was carrying the outbreak’s infections. The subject was isolated and has now been treated. This study shows the typhoid strain causing the outbreak acquired an additional piece of DNA to become resistant to multiple antibiotics, including a third-generation antibiotic. The team also discovered that the typhoid outbreak was caused by strain H58, a strain known to be associated with multidrug resistance. When researchers looked further they discovered that the strain of H58 had gained an extra strand of bacterial DNA that provided additional antibiotic resistance genes.
Recent research results published suggest that treatment options are running out for typhoid fever and there is an urgent need for preventive strategies including vaccines.More developed parts of the world such as Europe and the US report small number of cases compared to the hubs such as South Asian nations particularly, as demonstrated by Pakistan. Better hygienic conditions can greatly assist the curing and treatment options available.
