Average Replacement Age: In Indonesia, it has been observed that the average replacement age of a scooter is 2-3 years, whereas an average replacement age of motorcycle is 3-4 years as of 2018.
No Registration Legally Required During Resale: The Indonesian Government has not made it compulsory to change the name registered to a two-wheeler upon resale. Due to this relaxation, very few people choose to go through the legal formalities while purchasing a used two-wheeler. As there are no legal hassles while purchasing a used two-wheeler, it becomes a fast and cheap process, making it more lucrative than purchasing a new vehicle.
Rising Fuel Prices: Fuel prices have been observed to periodically be hiked by the government in recent times. These increased fuel prices have further lead to higher operating costs of two-wheelers and to incur this increased expenditure, the price-sensitive population of Indonesia chooses to purchase cheaper used two-wheelers rather than new two-wheelers to save money during the purchase of a vehicle.
