Brucite is a mineral
extracted from magnesium hydroxide. Synthetic brucite is mainly consumed as
magnesia (MgO) which is a useful refractory insulator. It is also used as a
flame retardant as it thermally decomposes to release water and constitutes as
a significant source of magnesia for industrial use. Brucite is not often used
as a mineral specimen and is used as an additive in certain refractories. Brucite
is often found as a part of the chemical structure of other minerals. The
physical properties of brucite are its lusty, transparent crystal, gets
associated with other minerals, flexible, inelastic nature and it is either
white or colourless with shades of grey, blue and green.
According to the study “Asia
Brucite Industry Situation and Prospects Research report”, majority of
the Brucite available in the market is mined for industrial use. The current
brucite market for flame-retardants is less than 50,000 tonnes annually and is
increasing exponentially. The major advantage of Brucite is that it does not
containing carbon dioxide and no gases are released during calcinations. The
increasing demand for the mineral, metal and high-grade brucite deposits may encourage
scientists to discover more exploration targets within the next few years.
Asian brucite market is
relatively small, but it is growing rapidly. Brucite is a industrial mineral
that can be used in dead-burned magnesia production, as functional filler in
plastic compounds, smoke retardant, as electric wire insulation, carpet
backing, waste-water treatment, agricultural feed, dietary magnesium
supplement, odour controller, and in specialty cement preparations as an
additive to Portland cements. It is one of the key minerals in effluent
treatment as a neutralizing reactant.
Various Brucite product
type available in Asian market are ball type, block type, and fiber type.
Brucite is used in various industrial applications such as flame retardant,
paper packing, arts, crafts, refractory manufacturing and other industries. All
the leading vendors in Asian brucite industry are increasingly focusing on
creating strong brand names, offering well-established products, and exhibit
long-term reliability. The vendors are increasingly competing against each
other based on factors such as price, features, and product quality. The
leading vendors in Asia’s Brucite industry are Magnezit, Russian Mining
Chemical, Garrison Minerals, Premier Magnesia, Dandong Jinyuan, Dandong
Xinyang, Dandong C.L.M., Dandong Yongfeng, Dandong Xinda, and Shanxi Tianbao.
Geographically, Asian brucite industry is spread across China, Japan, India,
Korea, Saudi Arabia and other regions.
Asia accounts for a
largest share in the brucite industry due to enhanced living standards. The
increasing consumption of brucite for various applications is encouraging the
market towards expansion in various sectors attracting huge recognition and
this trend will continue over the next few years in Asian markets.
