1. Thailand is the third most popular study destination in Southeast Asia after Malaysia and Singapore and attracts a far larger number of international degree students owing to following reasons
- Vast majority of international students come from Asian neighbor countries, with China being the largest sending country by far.
- If institutions fail to rectify identified quality problems within a specified period of time, they are subject to closure. The closure of HEIs is under the purview of OHEC, which also maintains a directory of duly recognized public and private higher education institutions.
- Number of policies are articulated to support new medical experiments and research in the country.

2. Political Instability along with few other challenges have resulted in the suppressed growth of Private sector in Medical education System
Political Influence has affected inbound mobility in Thailand historically and it has also led to under development state of the private sector in the medical education system. U.S. has historically been a preferred study destination for the Thai students and the trends appears to be similar till date.
However, there has been a drop in the no. student’s enrollment in US Education but the change was not very significant. Another problem with a more immediate impact on the education system is Thailand’s brisk demographic decline.
Thailand’s population is aging rapidly – a trend that causes the student population to shrink and threatens the existence of large numbers of Thai HIEs, particularly in the private sector.
3. Initiatives taken by the Government provides impetus to Medical Education in Thailand
The majority of the colleges are government colleges and funded by Ministry of Public Health with the main motive to improve medical education, especially in rural areas. This will enable better access to internal medicine doctors in the underdeveloped regions of the country. The training sessions are also largely focused to deal with the challenges prevailing in the rural sector. Thailand is pursuing increased integration into the global education community, with an emphasis on regional partners (notably ASEAN partner countries).

The number of collaborative programs between Thai and foreign higher education institutions is on the rise, and governments have emphasized internationalization of the Thai education system. Postgraduate program is in the alignment with international standards and are fairly regulated by respective Royal Colleges and Medical Council of Thailand.
