residents out of which 20.8 million users are internet users and 21 million are
active social media users during 2018. The country has an exceptionally high
internet penetration rate of 88% which gives a major impetus to the online

The changing consumer preferences
towards using mobile phones being used for shopping, financial transactions,
video surfing and other activities has made advertisers prefer mobile medium
for advertising than desktop. Rising number of internet users, introduction of international
brands and highly advanced digital infrastructure are some of the key factors
that are driving the growth of Taiwan online advertisement market. The
exponential increase in the social media usage has also contributed a lot in
the growth of the Taiwan online advertising spending, with approximately 21
million users accessing social media content through their mobile phones
frequently as of 2018.
Taiwan has an efficient internet
infrastructure with the internet speed being recorded at 20.79 Mbps which is 11th
fastest globally, even much faster than the US and most of its Southeast
compatriots. This has made the experience of using social media smoother, thereby
resulting in more number of people preferring internet over other mediums. The
major companies operating in this space are Growth Hackers, Gremlin Works,

Desktop advertising was observed to dominate
the market as compared to mobile advertising. However, over the review period 2013-2018, mobile
as a medium for advertising has grown at a CAGR of 41% whereas the desktop
preference as a medium for advertising has just grown at a CAGR of 6%. The
desktop has a better screen size and resolution and facilitates easier viewing
of the advertisements. The advertisements over a desktop were more impactful
and displayed the information more accurately due to its size advantage. Along
with the development of robust internet infrastructure owing to Taiwan
government’s initiatives and rapid increase in smart phone penetration in the
country, mobile advertising became an important tool in the marketing strategy
of many companies.

sector, new advertising technologies, growth of start-ups and supportive
government policies are going to drive the Taiwan online market space in the
future. The market is expected to register a double digit positive CAGR of 17%
in terms of advertisement expenditure during the forecast period of 2018–2023E.
