How is Medical education market Positioned in Vietnam?
Vietnam is a country that lies in the lower and
middle class income group. The education program in the country are in two
forms; six year integrated and four year graduate program. The educational
program involves rotational practice and theoretical classes. This is the most
traditional method of teaching the students which covers both practical and
theoretical aspects but stems its strength from the theoretical courses. All
Medical colleges in Vietnam provide Bachelor in Medical Science, however few
college contribute in the Master’s Degree for specialized courses such as
Internal Medicine, Anesthesiology and Ophthalmology.
Students pursue the course for
medical education straight after the high school and go for the six year
integrated course which involves medical science and basic sciences. The demand
for the physician course is specifically it large and it is in the demand, however
the intake for other kinds of Specialized is comparatively lower due
their high difficulty level and unstructured admissions procedure.
Most Specialized Courses are offered by the public institutes which have
well-structured learning and training modules. Specialization in Vietnam is
regarded as residency program which averages at about 3 years or 4 years for
some specific courses like neurosurgery. Ophthalmologist are the specialists in
the branch of medicine concerned with the study and treatment of disorders and
diseases of the eye. The scope of the ophthalmology residency is wide spread
and government is focusing on increasing the numbers of ophthalmologist in the
country. A major organizational and statutory problem with Vietnamese education
system is the lack of Medical council or regulatory body that facilitates the
registration or inoculation of the new doctors in the system. There is no
counter measure that tests the quality of the students or their training in the
system.
