Cubic boron nitrates are a synthetically manufactured solid, produced by treating hexagonal boron nitride at high temperature and pressure. It is the second hardest material after diamond. One of its mutual synthesis processes is the direct conversion of hexagonal boron nitride to cubic boron nitrate by treating at high pressure and temperature. It is used as an abrasive and wear-resistant coating due to its chemical inertness, hardness, and high melting temperature. It is also used to coat a grinding wheel for well grinding & lapping applications. Since the cutting & grinding of hardened or carbide steel is difficult, CBN mesh or powder, in the form of a coated surface over a grinding & polishing wheel, is used to perform finishing processes for instance polishing, grinding, and lapping. Its abrasives possess characteristics that exceed the value of conventional abrasives; for example, resistance to chemicals, heat, & abrasion, high strength and hardness, and ability to maintain the sharp cutting edges during use.
